Paddle For Water Party Raises Over $10,000 for Clean Water

Pirate Coast Paddle Company held its Annual Aloha Paddle for Water Party at the Newport Dunes on Saturday. The event featured music by Tini Grey, seafood chowder from Bluewater Grill, shave ice from Hula Girl, drinks from the Kona Brewing Company and Stacked Wines and massages from Back to Basics – a chiropractic practice. There were also booths showing exhibiting some cool wares and giving away freebies, including Simple Mobile, Zinka, Handplanes for Hope, OC Cross Fit, and Gogobot, which is the booth I manned. The goal was to raise $10612 for charity:water since it was the 10th October 2012 and the goal was surpassed! One of the highlights of the event was when Lydia, a nursing student, who was originally from Africa, talked about her experience growing up without access to clean water. It was very moving.
